Kristina Gabuardy
Kristina Gabuardy is a Filipina-American artist based in Missouri. She creates sculptures, paintings, and drawings. She has a B.F.A. in painting from the Kansas City Art Institute and her first exhibitions were in group shows in Blue Springs and Independence where she grew up. She has shown in the Beco Gallery, H&R Block Artspace, ArtsKC, Bunker Center for the Arts, Lodger Gallery, Vulpes Bastille and several other galleries. She has collaborated across disciplines as a model for hair drawings and wearable art.
Kristina’s current paintings investigate frame tension, affixed components and psychological themes. Her line of sculptures explore personified objecthood, excessive materiality and bodily themes. Her practice is interested in the axis between the body, the mind and the spirit. She draws inspiration from video games, the body, film, fashion, and food.
